14x20x1 MERV 13: pack prices & where to buy

Printed size is 14x20x1 (same panel as 20x14x1). This page is only the MERV 13 slice of that size — mainly Honeywell Ultra Efficiency MERV 13 (Honeywell Store 4- and 12-packs) plus the Nordic Pure MERV 13 factory 12-pack. Nominal 14×20×1 is larger than the cut panel: Honeywell prints 13.75 × 19.75 × 0.75 (“recommended dimensions to fit: 14 x 20 x 1 in.”), Filtrete MPR 1900 / MERV 13 lists closer to 13.62 × 19.62 × 0.78 on its Amazon titles, and Nordic Pure is about 13.5 × 19.5 × 0.75 (13½ × 19½ × ¾). Honeywell is the snuggest of the three. This is not 14x24x1, 14x25x1, or 16x20x1. Measure and compare brands on the parent 14x20x1 size page.

What MERV 13 means here

MERV is ASHRAE 52.2, as summarized by EPA. MERV 13 is the band EPA cites as ≥50% capture of 0.30–1.0 µm, ≥85% of 1.0–3.0 µm, and ≥90% of 3.0–10.0 µm. A 1-inch MERV 13 is not HEPA. We do not claim health outcomes. Higher MERV adds resistance: a 1-inch MERV 13 typically drops more pressure than MERV 8 or 11 in the same slot, and a small 14x20x1 return has less face area to spread that resistance over than a 20x25x1. EPA’s upgrade language is to pick at least MERV 13, or as high a rating as your system fan and filter slot can accommodate, and to ask an HVAC technician if you are unsure. • Honeywell Ultra 4-pack vs 12-pack: $15.24 vs $14.25 per filter — the 12-pack saves about $0.99 per filter (about $11.90 over 12 filters vs three 4-packs) if you will use them. Honeywell rates each filter for up to 3 months, so a 12-pack is roughly three years of single-slot changes; a 4-pack is about a year.
• Nordic Pure MERV 13 12-pack: $9.17 per filter vs Honeywell’s $14.25 in its 12-pack — the lowest per-filter number on this page, but a slightly smaller cut (about 13.5 × 19.5 vs Honeywell 13.75 × 19.75). A 12-pack is roughly three years of quarterly changes for one slot.

When not to buy MERV 13 in 1-inch

• The furnace or air-handler manual calls for a lower MERV (or a named brand/grade below 13). Follow the equipment, not a search query.
• An HVAC technician says the fan cannot take the extra pressure drop of a 1-inch MERV 13 — more likely on a single small 14x20x1 return.
• The slot is a 4-inch (or 5-inch) media cabinet. A 1-inch MERV 13 is not a 4-inch media cartridge.
• You need 14x24x1, 14x25x1, or 16x20x1 — different printed sizes (common mix-ups with 14x20x1). A 16x20x1 is two inches too wide for a 14x20x1 rack.
• Pets / allergies pressure is real, but choking the fan is worse — start from pets / allergies and how often.

If you are unsure, ask an HVAC technician. EPA’s wording is at least MERV 13 or as high as the fan and slot can accommodate — not “always MERV 13 in every 1-inch rack.”

Will a 14x24x1 or 14x25x1 fit a 14x20x1 slot?

No. They are four and five inches longer. Buy the printed size on your old filter frame.

How often should I change a 1-inch MERV 13?
